In the case of an accident or serious illness involving a child, the Preschool will immediately ensure that the child’s parent is notified by telephone, and the child receives medical attention if necessary. All staff have current and relevant first aid certificates.
The Preschool will ensure that child discipline methods utilized in the program are communicated to parents and staff in the Preschool Orientation Manual. Child discipline methods will be communicated to children verbally (where developmentally appropriate); and any child disciplinary action taken is reasonable in the circumstances.
Positive guidance techniques are used to encourage appropriate behavior. These include establishing clear, constituent and simple limits; providing real choices; allowing time for children to respond to expectations and reinforcing appropriate behaviour.
At no stage shall any teaching staff, including substitute teachers or parent volunteers inflict any form of physical punishment, verbal or physical degradation or emotional deprivation; deny or threaten to deny any basic necessity; or use or permit the use of any form of physical restraint, confinement or isolation to punish a child.
Children should remain home and NOT attend the Preschool in the event of:
- yellow/green/excessive nasal discharge
- the appearance of any unexplained rash
- any contagious/communicable infections
Children may return to the Preschool once they have been symptom-free for a period of 24 hours.
The Preschool will administer medication to children provided a medication form has been completed and delivered to the Preschool together with all required information regarding the administration of the medication, as well as an doctor’s note which may be required. All medications are secured in a locked cabinet, inaccessible to children.
Photos are taken in the Preschool and are for the enjoyment of the program participants (in the form of a yearbook or end of year album) and for promotional uses (including use on social media), as needed. Parents are required to sign a form, upon registration, indicating whether or not they consent to photos of their child being used for promotional purposes.
School Closure Policy
The Preschool will strive to be open in the event of bad weather/storm however it follows the Calgary Board of Education’s decision regarding school closures. Preschool volunteers and teachers will attempt to contact parents/caregivers in advance whenever possible, using the Fan Out List information provided on the child’s registration documentation.
